The Role of Further Education Colleges in Preventing Violent Extremism: Next Steps

Further Education (FE) Colleges play a leading role in shaping their Community. Besides their core educational role they are also well placed to foster shared values which bind communities together and are vital to prevent violent tensions. DIUS, now BIS, and the Champion Principals group on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) have developed in cooperation with the sector a toolkit and guide on next steps to support FE colleges in their work.

On 18 February 2009, DIUS published two documents on the role that further education colleges can play in preventing violent extremism:

• a next steps document describing how we are taking this work forward following the consultation in 2008
• a prevention toolkit (Learning Together to be Safe) with practical advice for colleges
