Policies and Procedures
Colleges are required, both legally and morally, to create an environment that is safe and where all learners are treated fairly and equitably. To achieve this, colleges may formalise the entitlement of learners in:
- a student charter – a clear statement of what the learner can expect from the college and what the college expects from the learner.
All colleges must have:
- robust policies and procedures in place to respond to complaints
- robust policies and procedures in place to respond to disciplinary issues.
For these to be effective, both staff and learners should know:
- that these documents exist
- what they contain
- where copies can be obtained
- that they have been developed, and are regularly reviewed, in a process of open dialogue between the college and its learners.
